KateWalsh.com blog - Private Practice 2-hour event!

After last nights 2-hour Private Practice event I felt the need to blog my thoughts and send it to Kate Walsh's team. I then got an email saying they have cut it down because me and another girl both submitted blogs regarding the episode. This got me wondering as to how they'd cut it and how they were going to put it on Kate's site with the other blog.

Well here it is; mine and Sabine's thoughts about last nights event!

So, I'm uber glad that my blog is up, and I think it's good actually to get two different Walshies opinions and thoughts...

However, a lot of what I wrote was cut. I do understand why because I did write over a page worth but I just think they cut the best bits! Because of this I thought I'd just include here what I originally wrote for anyone who wants to read more...

The 2-hour event of Private Practice entitled ‘Intervention’ aired last night and all I can say is wow. The whole cast did a brilliant job but the true recognition should lie with Caterina Scorsone who gave an epic performance showing Amelia going through turmoil as she battles with drug addiction.

The first part of the 2-hour event focused solely on Amelia and began with a flash back from when her father died in front of her and her Derek’s eyes. The central focus of these flashbacks is a watch. A watch that was bought for Amelia’s father by her mother as an anniversary gift. This then became the reason he was killed. Amelia then returns to the practice after 12 days and claims that she is sober. Charlotte sees right through this and thus begins ‘the intervention’.

Amelia returns to the practice the next day to be bombarded by everyone including a specialist. She then takes blows at Violet and Pete for their marriage, Charlotte for her rape and most harshest at Addison for her fertility problems and abortion of Marks baby. My personal opinion is that the specialist was not needed and I feel that Charlotte should have taken a more leading role in talking to Amelia, coming from a person who has been there, rather than letting it fall to Addison, Violet and Sheldon.

In the second part of the event Amelia checked herself into rehab after the death of Ryan, her drug addicted ‘lover’ and she began her recovery process. We see her 50-day treatment where she becomes close to an 18-year-old girl also in rehab for drug addiction and they begin to share their stories, although Amelia does not share as much as she should. He begins to realise that letting her friends in is the best option for her. She lets Sheldon visit and the whole practice is called to a meeting where Amelia realises her mistakes and tries to start making amends.

In other news, Addison continued her journey to having a baby but then found out she was in fact not pregnant and the IVF had not worked. She confided in Violet who almost became machine-like in helping her to realise her dream of being a mother. Addison had ideas of using various drugs and treatments to help with various things but Jake insisted she just tries again with the two remaining embryos.

Time passes and Addison comes to realise that Sam really does not want a child, nor does he really want her to have one. She takes him along to her therapist but after not liking what he hears he walks out on the session. Later Addison arrives at the practice and suddenly collapses on the floor.  She is taken to hospital and it is found to be both stress and a fill up in her abdomen that is sometimes common when doing IVF.

Addison quickly recovers and is then told by Sam that he doesn’t want her to try again. He cares more for her health than her having a baby but unfortunately for him he is too late as she has already had the embryos implanted. I still cannot understand how they think this relationship is going to work. Sam says he loves Addison but then he says her baby will not be his problem. How do they plan to continue being in a relationship if Sam wants nothing to do with Addison’s possible baby?

Another story that was revisited last night was Violet and Pete’s ever-going struggle with their marriage. Pete has fallen out of love and their home life is merely an act for Lucas. By the end of the episode they are barely even speaking and Violet gives Pete a get out card and time to think. In a heart-breaking scene, Pete decided they need to be apart and Violet packs her bags and leaves for a hotel.

Cooper and Charlotte continued to adjust to having Mason in their lives, with Charlotte eve going to Mason’s school play saving a seat for Cooper – who in the end didn’t even make it.

In the end as I predicted the whole practice meet for a thanksgiving lunch joined by Amelia after completely her rehab program. Addison was missing from the picture but then we cut to her waiting for a pregnancy test to reveal if the IVF had worked. At this point I knew we were not going to find out and I was right! Although we saw Addison looking at the test, her face didn’t really show any clear emotion.

I think this episode will definitely go down in Private Practice history and Shonda

What are your thoughts on Caterina’s performance, Violet and Pete’s failing marriage, Sam and Addison’s seemingly impossible relationship and do you have hope for Addison and a baby?
