KYLIE MINOGUE COVERS ELLE UK | JANUARY 2013

The January 2013 coves are going to start coming through thick and fast in the next few days I'd imagine and one of the first to be released is Elle UK with their cover star Kylie Minogue.

Kylie wears a Christopher Kane dress and Jil Sander heels which I really like, especially the really muted colours used. My only issues with this cover are the pose (take a tip from ANTM and model head to toe!) and the hair. I don't like that you can't see her other foot, its really awkward to look at and the bleach blonde hair just isn't working, its not very 'Kylie' in my eyes. I am however, excited to see the accompanying editorial and the subscribers cover.

What do you think of the January 2013 cover of Elle UK? Are you a fan of Kylie's bleach blonde hair?

BEST DRESS | UNICEF SNOWFLAKE BALL

Two posts in one day, I'm on a roll!

I just love it when the Snowflake Ball comes around each year, everyone looks so elegant and very reminiscent of an ice, metallic scene (that makes sense in my head)! This year left me somewhat disappointed though and I found myself only able to choose three looks that stood out to me in a way I felt I could write a best dressed post and here they are...

Allison Williams
Girls star Allison Williams wore probably my favourite look of the night, keeping it very elegant with a muted duck-egg Naeem Khan gown and very minimal jewellery. The lace overlay and the metallic embellishments really give off a mermaid vibe, continued through the fit and slight tail. I like how Allison styled this look and for me, this dress on its own is a real stand-out.

Selena Gomez
Selena Gomez wore a black Dolce & Gabbana halter-necked gown with bronzed gold embellished detailing around the neck and body. The panel effect on this dress really flatters Selena's figure and creates a slight fish tail that just adds to the otherwise figure-hugging dress. Selena completed her look with a black clutch, a simple nude lip and contrast red nails and earrings. This look isn't the best I've ever seen, but it really suits the occasion and I like the detailing a lot.

Katy Perry
We all must remember the showstopping caped looks donned by Gwyneth Paltrow and Lana Del Rey earlier this year, but now Katy Perry has taken on that trend with a navy blue Naeem Khan cut-out gown and matching cape. The dress itself is very flattering on Katy and the floral cutout detailing down the front really is a nice touch. The cape however just doesn't do it for me; I like other variations of capes that I've seen in the past, but the sheer material and loose cut of this one really don't do the dress itself any justice. This look still deserves some recognition though as the styling and overall look work perfectly.

OUTFIT | TOPSHOP 'EYE HAVE MY EYE ON YOU'

jacket, top, jeans, boots & eye ring: topshop, peace ring: kukee, nails: barry m 'teal'

This is slightly different to my usual outfit posts as there isn't a full length shot, simply because I looked back through them and hated them all! I did however, really like how these photos turned out so thought I'd still do the outfit post.

As you can probably tell from the title and my totally original added touch, this whole outfit, minus one of the rings, is from Topshop and it honestly makes me wonder if I own anything not from there! This is a very plain outfit because I felt the rings and nail polish stood out enough, so with them I just paired this grey asymmetric t-shirt with my leather jacket, black leigh jeans and chelsea boots for a very simple grey and black look. This outfit was actually from yesterday and the weather was grey and horrible so I thought it was very fitting - I also wore a scarf but took that off when not outside!

Anyway, this week has just been filled with scrap-booking (for one of my modules) and essay planning and writing; so a productive week on the whole. I'm in countdown mode now though for Christmas - or at least when Christmas break starts - two weeks then I can go home!!

BOOHOO BLOGGING COMPETITION | #PARTYPOSE

I found out last week that Boohoo.com are holding a bloggers competition called #PartyPose where the idea is to create a party look using at least three items from their website, all for £100 or under. I thought I'd give it my best shot and I managed to find a whole outfit; accessories and all for £86, not bad at all!
shirt | skirt | wedges | clutch | headband

I chose a black leather look skater skirt (£15), which could also work as a staple in your wardrobe, that comes with a studied belt that is very on trend at the moment. I paired this with a floral print shirt (£15) that ties in nicely with the skirt as it has a black central trim and collar. I really like floral shirts and thin they can add colour to what otherwise would be a really plain outfit.

For accessories I chose a pair of black suede court wedges (£25) which will elongate the leg paired with black tights (not included) and are a perfect simple shoe. Then, continuing with the studded trend from the belt, I thought this headband would work really nicely with the leather-look skirt and would 'toughen' up the floral shirt a bit. Finally to finish off the look, this black clutch with a metal skull panel (£25) again contrast well with the feminine floral print and seems a perfect size for a party look.

So that's my entry for the Boohoo Blogging Competition, I hope you liked it and that it maybe gave you some ideas for your party looks. This would be something I would quite easily wear (minus the heels!) and I feel boohoo has a tonne of great party looks at the moment!

If you would like to enter this competition, the full details can be found here. Closing date is December 14th!

BALMI | RASPBERRY

Balmi (£4.99) - Boots

You may remember a long while ago, the huge hype surrounding the EOS lip balms available in the US but unfortunately for us UK residents, they were a lot harder to get a hold of. I never actually got my hands on one but the curiosity always remained; a round shaped lip balm really intrigued me for some reason.

Anyway, a few months ago (I know I'm late with this one!) the 'Balmi' came onto the scene in the UK, which is basically the same concept as the EOS version but slightly rounder. I however, could for the life of me find one anywhere, that is until a couple of weeks ago when I visited a huge boots store and finally found one. I bought the Raspberry version and the I'll admit, on finding it I was a little disappointed with the size. I envisioned it to bigger than it was for the price, even though, when out of the box it does look really cute and even has a keyring attachment which is a nice touch; I like the packaging I just wish it was a bit bigger.

Onto the product itself, I'm usually one for potted lip balms as I feel they last longer than stick forms, but this, although not technically in a pot, seems like it would last for a long time. It's almost like they've turned the pot inside out and this is what you've been left with and because of its rounded shape, application is made so much easier. The smell also deserves a mention, as I said, I bought the raspberry scent and it is a very prominent smell but isn't too overpowering which I like, I'm definitely on the hunt next for the mint flavoured one!

As for how well this lip balm moisturises your lips, I'm an avid Carmex lover, so it's inevitable that I'd compare the Balmi to that, and honestly, I don't think it does as good of a job. It does leave your lips feeling softer, just not as deeply moisturised as I feel Carmex does. It does do the job its supposed to but it's not my all time favourite lip balm. I do however, hope more brands take on this concept as it's far more hygienic and easier to apply than potted forms.

Have you tried the Balmi? If not, then is it something you would like to try?

models own 'dancing queen' | candy floss | ootd | collar | new favourite show | meet colin and percy | starlight express at the theatre |
frosty leaves | best cake and hot chocolate

This week has been quite a good week for me. I bought candy floss which is always exciting (I forgot how good it tasted!) and I also had the best hot chocolate and piece of cake I have ever had - Esquires is the best - sorry Starbucks! Food aside, on Friday I went to watch Starlight Express at the theatre which was exciting. It was a very last minute thing and I ended up getting a ticket for only £1 on the day to sit in really amazing seats; if you ever get a change to watch this musical I really suggest you do, it was brilliant.

One thing I must mention is the TV show Sons of Anarchy. Its been on for around five years now but I never really thought it'd be something I'd enjoy, that is until I started watching it last week and I'm now officially hooked - I'm currently on season three; obsessed much? It has a really great set of actors; especially Katey Sagal and Charlie Hunnam who I think are just brilliant in it.

Well, that's been my week, I hope you're all having a lovely weekend!

HOW TO STYLE | FAUX FUR COLLARS

I've noticed that faux fur collars are becoming more and more popular and are a good alternative to buying a coat with an attached collar; giving you the option to wear your look with or without one. I personally like the trend and am actually thinking of buying myself one pretty soon.

My mind then goes into overdrive putting together various outfits in my head centred around the collar and then I thought I'd share some of my ideas. These are just my suggestions of ways I would wear a fur collar, I'm sure there's hundreds of other ways though.

This is a very casual look and I really like the light brown fur with the khaki green jacket, I would also swap out this jacket for a camouflage print one to give the same sort of effect. I think the main focus should be on the jacket and the collar so I'd keep the rest of the outfit black with a loose fitting t-shirt, some military-style boots and I chose wet-look leggings for this as the t-shirt is a long fit, but you could always wear just black jeans (which is what I would opt for) or plain black leggings!

This is a slightly less casual look to the previous and could be worn at night as well as the day. I really like the skater style dress that Topshop have and I think any dress of this style would work well. I kept it subtle with a dark, forest green dress and the rest of the look black (see a theme appearing yet). Fur collars and leather, biker jackets go perfectly together, and then a spiked necklace and spiked loafers just make the look a little more interesting. I'd also put tights as a part of this look too but I didn't think it was necessary to include those.

I adore this fur collar, the colour and texture is perfect, and it's currently in the sale so bargain! Anyway, this look is definitely a winter one what with the boyfriend coat and the chelsea boots. I really like the dark brown fur paired with this khaki green coat, they compliment each other so well and then for a bit of pattern I chose a red check shirt and then just a pair of dark  blue wash jeans. This is my favourite of the three looks I've put together simply because I love the jacket/fur combination and I have a real love for chelsea boots and frilly socks at the moment too.

Do you own a faux fur collar? What would you pair one with?

CHRISTMAS GIFT GUIDE | HER

So, there's only 32 days until Christmas and it's so exciting! With December nearing, I'm certain everyone has either already bought their Christmas gifts or are in the process of at least thinking about buying them. That being said, I thought I'd put together a little gift guide for 'her', of things I think would make great presents.

Ted Baker Purse, Vera Wang 'Lovestruck', ASOS Stag Ring Holder, Marc by Marc Jacobs iPhone Case, Zara Office City Bag, Benefit Makeup Set, Socks

I think as a 'staple' Christmas gift, socks are perfect. I don't know about you but I can't remember a year where I haven't received at least one pit of socks and some of the best I've found are from Topshop who also run a three for £8 deal; perfect! Another gift that I think is perfect for anyone is perfume and you could either opt for a gift set or a single bottle - I personally would get just the single bottle as I feel the lotions and other things in the sets are a little pointless. Lovestruck is an example of a perfume that could suit a lot of peoples tastes as it's a young and sweet scent but not too overpowering like some fragrances can be (this is on my Christmas wish list!)

Two gifts that go hand in hand with each other are a bag and a purse. For purses, Ted Baker do a huge range, and though on the pricier side (pictured is £99), they are well worth the money as the quality is brilliant. For a bag I feel that Zara have a great selection, especially their 'basic' range and this office city bag could suit various different lifestyles.

If you're buying for a makeup lover then a gift set is perfect, and I've found this one from Benefit which included several miniature sizes of products which is great for testing out possible future buys. I had to include a phone case in this gift guide, and I chose a Marc by Marc Jacobs one simply because they are adorable! This is my personal favourite but there are dogs, zebras, owls etc and there's plenty of other phone cases out there you could choose from.

Finally as more of a quirky gift, I thought this ring holder would be great for storing both rings and other jewellery and it just so happens to be a cute animal which is a bonus. So, these are just my suggestions of Christmas gift ideas, I'd love to hear if you have any other suggestions.

TUMBLR?

Most of you probably know what Tumblr is by now but in case you don't, it's basically a site that allows you to almost create a blog in a sense, of a collection of images that interest and inspire you. I've had a Tumblr account for years now and at the start I was literally obsessed with it, I would find myself spending hours upon hours just scrolling through, reblogging various images. At the time, I was a total television fanatic and my tumblr was basically just images, gifs and quotes from various shows, and thinking back now, I can't quite believe how obsessed I was. After about a year though, I just suddenly stopped, and started to focus more on this blog.

I've now found myself clicking the little 'tumblr' button in my favourites more often than anything else, but it seems my choice of things to reblog has changed quite considerably...

I love my Tumblr now and surprisingly, there isn't a television show in sight. I did debate with myself whether or not to start a whole new Tumblr account because, if you are dedicated enough and scroll all the way through my page, you would eventually reach the 'obsessed fan' portion and that's just not what I want my account to be at all. I still watch shows and I do still have my favourite characters and 'ships' (love that) and what ever else comes along with that, but I'm definitely not nearly as obsessed as I used to be. Now I'm obsessed with fashion instead, which is a good thing considering my choice of career paths! One thing though, my url remains the same and I think will always remain the same - you probably won't have a clue what it means though unless you watch the show it's from!

Anyway, this was a really ramble post, but I just wanted to point you in the direction of my Tumblr (button to the right also), there's some really amazing images to be found.

BEST DRESSED | AMERICAN MUSIC AWARDS

Sunday saw the stars out once again for this years American Music Awards. There were some really amazing looks to hit the red carpet, but I've just picked out a few of my favourites.

Carrie Underwood
It seems Carrie Underwood is cropping up a lot on my blog recently; she just has some of the most amazing red carpet looks so expect to continue seeing her here! Anyway, for the American Music Awards Carrie wore a pinkish purple, sequinned Abed Mahfouz gown with a gold clutch and gold shoes. The dress was heavily embellished and featured details of lace cut out which was a lovely touch.

Taylor Swift
Taylor Swift wore a Zuhair Murad dress in gold paired with gold strapped heels. Her dress, as with Carrie's, was heavily embellished but she opted for a shorter length with long sleeve to balance the look. I love that she wore her hair up with just her bangs framing her face, it really makes the dress the sole focus, she should style her hair this way more often! this dress was the perfect cut for Taylor and the floral detailing is just beautiful.

Gwen Stefani
Gwen Stefani moved away from dresses and opted for a pair of wet-look trousers, black pumps and a statement Balmain jacket which is such an extravagant creation. I love that she kept everything simple apart from the jacket and then paired it all with a bold red lip which compliments her hair perfectly and just adds a little bit of colour to the look. I like that Gwen didn't follow the 'norm'.

So that is my best dressed from the American Music Awards. Do you agree with my choices or did someone else stand out more for you?

NAILS | MODELS OWN 'DANCING QUEEN'

Models Own 'Dancing Queen' (£5.00) & Essie 'Mint Candy Apple' (£7.99) - Boots

Eeeek! Isn't this nail polish just amazing! I have been after the something from the Models Own Mirrorball collection since it was released, but as I only have tiny boots near me, I had to wait until the weekend (just gone) to pick one up! I went with 'Dancing Queen' which is a jade green glitter with flecks of blues and gold also; it's really lovely.

Choosing what to pair this with though was more difficult as I hate wearing green nail polish and blue just didn't look right, so I opted for an in-between with 'Mint Candy Apple' by Essie (here) which really compliments the glitter well.

As for the application of the glitter polish, I used two coats on each nail as I found not a lot of flecks appeared with just one. Also, this may sound odd, but once dry the glitter is really sharp to touch in places - even with a top coat - I do think I can forget about that though as I love the shapes and colours within this polish! Overall it gives a really nice effect.

I'm definitely going to try more from the Mirrorball collection. Have you tried any, if so, which would you recommend?

OUTFIT | TARTAN & LEATHER

jacket, top & jeans: topshop, scarf: h&m, shoes: shoezone, necklace: old, nails: models own 'dancing queen' over essie 'mint candy apple'

I've noticed tartan scarves are really becoming a trend at the moment; and I have shamefully jumped on that trend wagon after trying not to for such a long time. I just really like how they can make an outfit, like this one, a lot more interesting with a pop of colour (for want of a better phrase!). I wore the scarf with my black asymmetric t-shirt from Topshop and then my trusty leather jacket, which has to be my best buy of the year; I wear it almost everyday.

For my nails I went with a totally not matched shade of mint green and glitter; clash much? I just really could;'t wait to try out the dancing queen polish fro the Models Own Mirrorball collection and my verdict, it is awesome! See a full review here

Question; are you a fan of the tartan trend? Let me know!

I was at home this week so that's why this is a pretty small instagram post. I spent most of my time with my mum and dad, not doing anything groundbreaking, but just being at home, which was nice. I did however take a trip to one of my favourite places; the Trafford Centre, which is so pretty around christmas time. I also got my hands on a balmi and pink lemonade lucozade finally which is exciting -  the lucozade is yummy.

RIMMEL STAY MATTE PRESSED POWDER

Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder - Boots (£3.99)
I bought this powder to keep my face looking matte (as it says) because I find that with any foundation, certain areas of my face always end up looking a tad shiny after a while.

I chose the shade 'sandstorm' but to be honest, it doesn't really show up at all so I don't suppose it'd matter what shade you got, if you have a light to medium skin tone. This is definitely a very lightweight powder and it feels so smooth when applied and doesn't give you that awful cakey look that you could get from some other pressed powders. It does do the job of keeping the face matte for a good four to five hours, but I'd advise reapplying after maybe two if you have extra oily skin.

I don't wear foundation everyday but when I do this is definitely a must for me and it's the first thing I've ever hit pan on! Have you tried this powder? Do you have any recommendations that you have tried?

DIY | FRENCH MANICURE

Barry M 'White' & Rimmel Topcoat - Superdrug, Guides - Asda
I meant to post this absolutely ages ago but then somehow, it ended up in my drafts for months until now. This is my attempt at a 'diy' french manicure which was surprisingly easy and quick to do. All you need is white nail polish, a top coat and some guide stickers (you could also use a soft pink polish but that's optional).

You just place the stickers on your nails to the width you want to white tip to be, paint the tip with white and wait a good while before then peeling off the stickers. Its essential you wait a while or you will end up peeling off the nail polish in parts which is not a good look. Then just go over the entire nail with either a clear topcoat or a pale pink colour and then the topcoat. And walah!

This is a really classic nail look and perfect for work (which this was for at the time), going out or even day-to-day. I also like to add a bit of glitter or a floral design to my ring fingers too just to make it a little less plain.

Do you like french manicures or do you prefer a solid colour?

BREAKING DAWN PART 2 PREMIERE | ASHLEY GREENE IN DONNA KARAN

Ashley Greene never fails to look amazing on the red carpet and last night at Breaking Dawn Part 2 premiere was no exception. She wore a pinkish nude, one-shoulder gown with perfectly placed ruffled layers and a plaited, wrap design body.

This dress is just beautiful, the colour is divine and the layers fall over each other so neatly; paired with diamond drop earrings and pinned back curls, this look couldn't be made any better.

Ashley definitely stole the spotlight for me at the premiere and her apparent love for Donna Karan gowns pays off every time; it's a match made in heaven.

Do you like Ashley Greene's look?

BREAKING DAWN PART 2 PREMIERE | ELLE FANNING IN PRADA

For once I am actually lost for words. Last night Elle Fanning was one of the many stars to walk the Breaking Dawn (part 2) red carpet wearing one of the most talked about looks of the night. Elle wore a pale pink, satin dress from the Prada Spring 2013 collection which, although a tad unshapely and unflattering, is not the reason her look got so much attention.

The shoes. Who knew Prada could actually create a shoe that make you look like you have huge bricks attached to your feet. The platform alone is bad but then the hollowed middle covered in cerise pink satin and then silver and nude straps; disaster. Now I do get that she is only 14 and wants to keep her looks fun, but even so, these shoes are hideous and without them, the dress could have just been okay, but with them she honestly looks like she's heading to the beach or something.

Do you like Elle Fanning's look? What do you think her Prada platforms?

EMA AWARDS 2012 | RITA ORA IN MARCHESA

Rita Ora took the phrase; 'go big or go home' to new extremes last night at the EMAs, wearing a vibrant blood-red Marchesa gown. The floral embroidered dress with a full volume taffeta skirt was worn with Rita's signature red lip and a wavy faux bob to create a chic red carpet look.

This look actually left me speechless, you can't deny that this look is stunning and she definitely stole the show last night. I just wish I could have seen this dress in real-life as I can tell the photographs don't do it the justice it needs at all.

Now whether you're a fan of Rita Ora or not, her whole look last night was beautiful. Are you a fan of her Marchesa gown?

ANNE HATHAWAY COVERS US VOGUE

Anne Hathaway covers the December issue of Vogue US which brings her Vogue count to three covers now! The actress is currently promoting the upcoming Tom Hooper movie Les Misérables, which is released on Christmas day and is rumoured to set up her for many major awards.

The cover was shot by Annie Leibovitz and you can now see the accompanying editorial over at Vogue.com featuring a velvet Valentino Haute Couture dress and a Ralph Lauren ruffled blouse. You can also read a part of Anne's interview where she reveals that she knew the part in Les Misérables was hers from the get-go...

“I knew that someone was going to have to go in there and do something pretty special to unseat me. Sometimes you leave a room and you feel like maybe you’ve left the door open a crack. This time, I knew that I had slammed it shut behind me.”

This may sound like Anne is a tad over-confident but have a look at the trailer and you decide, I personally feel that an award or several are definitely going to be heading her way.

What do you think of Anne Hathaway's December cover of Vogue US? Will you be going to watch Les Misérables?

GREEN & YELLOW NAIL POLISH

U & I | Acid Yellow | Spring Green | Shade 4 | Green Glitter

803 | Lemon Ice Cream | Hidden Treasure | Totally Teal

Me and green nail polishes definitely have a hate hate relationship. I hate them and they hate my nails, every time I wear one they turn my nails an ugly colour. That being said, I do really like some of these polishes and one of my all time favourites is among this group!

Hidden Treasure from Topshop is a multi-toned, mainly green metalic shade which gets me so many compliments every time I have it on my nails, this is one of my all-time favourite nail polishes! Totally Teal by No 7 is a dark teal shade that in some lights can look more black. Acid Yellow by Barry M is a neon yellow/green colour and is one of the few polishes I regret buying - it's so ugly on the nails! U & I is from the love hearts collection by MUA and is a really nice pastel, mustard yellow.

OUTFIT | KNIT, CAMO & BLACK

Jacket: Topshop
Cardigan: Primark
Dress: H&M
Shoes: Topshop (via ebay)
Watch: Michael Kors

Firstly, I apologise for the drizzly background, the weather is just awful today, I hate looking out of the window and seeing this. That aside, I chose quite a layered outfit today which is odd for me; I'm usually the one who's freezing wearing only one or two layers.

This black dress from H&M has a appeared in several of my outfit posts because it literally goes with anything, and can be worn as a dress or a skirt, which is great. I layered a thick knit cardigan and then my trusty camouflage jacket over the top; I really like the light knit shade with the jacket print, I think it's just a bit different than a black cardigan or just the jacket on its own.

I want to know your thoughts on camouflage jackets. I see them a lot, especially around university (saw at least three people wearing the same one today!) but I'm wondering whether it's just a fashion 'phase' or if it'll be a recurring trend like military? Either way I think I'll be wearing mine a lot even if it isn't so 'in' as it seems to be now.

I hope you all had a lovely weekend and a great bonfire night last night! :)
