FAVOURITE WINTER 'TREND' | FAUX FUR

When it comes to winter, I'll admit, I'm not one of those people who likes to wear a million and ones layers; even if I really should! One thing I do love about the winter though, is the chance to break out the faux fur again, which I miss so much during the warmer months. Fur seems to be a timeless trend that returns each year without fail, and even more so this year it seems.

Fur - faux or real - I would imagine is a love/hate thing, and not to everyones taste but I personally love it and this year I've gone a bit fur mad! I have two fur coats, one that I got last year and one this year and I love them both so much. It just makes me feel so toasty and warm, so who needs a tonne of layers eh? A recent fur purchase of mine is this H&M collar which I had my eye on for ages and then finally just bit the bullet and bought it; it works well with so many different things and can really make something boring look a little more special.

Next there's hats, and I realise that all these aren't fur, but I thought I'd just include them all anyway! I've had the panda hat for a few years now and it's just so cute, but now that sooo many people own it, I don't like to wear it as much. I also have a plain black, beanie style and then a black and grey 'glitter' beanie with a fur bobble on top. The newest addition is my full fur hat complex with ears and bobbles; this is by far the warmest hat, even if it isn't the most practical.

HOW TO STYLE | FAUX FUR COLLARS

I've noticed that faux fur collars are becoming more and more popular and are a good alternative to buying a coat with an attached collar; giving you the option to wear your look with or without one. I personally like the trend and am actually thinking of buying myself one pretty soon.

My mind then goes into overdrive putting together various outfits in my head centred around the collar and then I thought I'd share some of my ideas. These are just my suggestions of ways I would wear a fur collar, I'm sure there's hundreds of other ways though.

This is a very casual look and I really like the light brown fur with the khaki green jacket, I would also swap out this jacket for a camouflage print one to give the same sort of effect. I think the main focus should be on the jacket and the collar so I'd keep the rest of the outfit black with a loose fitting t-shirt, some military-style boots and I chose wet-look leggings for this as the t-shirt is a long fit, but you could always wear just black jeans (which is what I would opt for) or plain black leggings!

This is a slightly less casual look to the previous and could be worn at night as well as the day. I really like the skater style dress that Topshop have and I think any dress of this style would work well. I kept it subtle with a dark, forest green dress and the rest of the look black (see a theme appearing yet). Fur collars and leather, biker jackets go perfectly together, and then a spiked necklace and spiked loafers just make the look a little more interesting. I'd also put tights as a part of this look too but I didn't think it was necessary to include those.

I adore this fur collar, the colour and texture is perfect, and it's currently in the sale so bargain! Anyway, this look is definitely a winter one what with the boyfriend coat and the chelsea boots. I really like the dark brown fur paired with this khaki green coat, they compliment each other so well and then for a bit of pattern I chose a red check shirt and then just a pair of dark  blue wash jeans. This is my favourite of the three looks I've put together simply because I love the jacket/fur combination and I have a real love for chelsea boots and frilly socks at the moment too.

Do you own a faux fur collar? What would you pair one with?

Faux Fur

For a very long time now I have wanted a faux fur coat. I have seen lots that I like but I've never found 'the one' until yesterday. I went into T K Maxx with my mum and immediately fell in love with this coat. It's absolutely perfect! It's not really really fluffy, it's unusual, it's warm - which is a must - and it's unbelievably soft! So I finally purchased the fur coat I'd be wanting and here it is...

This coat won't be everyones cup of tea I'm sure, but I love it and will be wearing it so so much I'm certain. I'm so glad I waited for the perfect fur coat rather than buying one I just liked like these I had my eye on at first...

River Island. I walked round with this for ages....until I decided
against it...
New Look. This wasn't my favourite but it was nice - probably
not very warm though!
Matalan. This was more unusual I thought with the belt - I was close to
buying this one...but it just wasn't the one.

I went to Durham!

Today I went to Durham to visit a friend and my initial thoughts were that it was just going to be a small place with old buildings but much to my amazement it was much much more! Now of course there were old buildings (insert old building photos now!)...

...but it wasn't just old buildings. There was also;

A forest/walkway which happened to double up as a
death hill (it was VERY steep)!

A river....which looked very very picturesque may I add.

And a.....well I don't know what you'd call this
but I liked it because there was soo many different birds
just siting on the logs.

Oh, I almost forgot...there was also cobbles....everywhere!

My mission for the day was to go in some of the vintage-type stops I'd heard about to try and pick up some odd bits. We went in one shop called 'Scarlet Ribbons' and I have to confess, I just wanted to buy every accessory in that shop! They were all either very retro or very vintage from candy bar earrings and scrabble rings, to satchel bags and scarf headbands. Sadly, I only bought two items which were an 'E' scrabble ring and a red/black headband scarf thing (which I'm yet to determine if I actually like!).

I have wanted one of these for absolutely
ages...I'm so happy I finally got one...

This is the 'headband scarf thing', what are all
your thoughts on it? I'm torn between if I like it or not.

The second vintage shop we went in was a little less retro and cool and little more....interesting to say the least. I have been looking to buy a faux fur coat for some time now and when we walked into this shop I was immediately drawn to the racks of fur coats. However I quickly discovered that they were in fact real fur so that totally put me off - and they cost £300-£400 each! This got me to thinking that up until today I have never really thought about how I feel about real fur. I have never been against it nor have I been for it however, after seeing all the coats lined up today, I think I can quite happily say that I won't ever be buying or wearing a real fur coat (I may still buy a faux one though!).

After the initial shock of seeing all the fur coats, then came the foxes...yes I did say FOXES! Me and my friend were happily rummaging around the shop up until the point when she pointed out the fox scarves looking down at us from the beams above. That was where I drew the line. It actually made me real very uncomfortable and just made me want to leave the shop and frankly never go back.

So, overall I enjoyed my day in Durham. It was lovely to see my friend and catch up with her over lunch, and it also gave me an opportunity to see a city that I haven't ever seen before :D

The cafe where we ate at.

Nicest looking hot chocolate ever! (It did taste a bit strange though...)

They knew what I meant when I asked for a 'barm cake'!!!
However I wasn't expecting one quite this big.

The view was nice. I thought I'd take a photo.

Last thing, I've been wanting a notebook to carry round with me for ages, but every time I see any they are all boring plain ones. I managed to find one today though that I really really liked at a shop called 'Paperchase' which I believe is a large international chain so if you haven't been in before I'd recommend you do because is was such a good shop!

My 'teatime' notebook (the shops words not mine) I think
it should be called 'sweet cakes' or something along those lines
that's way more creative...
