DIY | FRENCH MANICURE

Barry M 'White' & Rimmel Topcoat - Superdrug, Guides - Asda
I meant to post this absolutely ages ago but then somehow, it ended up in my drafts for months until now. This is my attempt at a 'diy' french manicure which was surprisingly easy and quick to do. All you need is white nail polish, a top coat and some guide stickers (you could also use a soft pink polish but that's optional).

You just place the stickers on your nails to the width you want to white tip to be, paint the tip with white and wait a good while before then peeling off the stickers. Its essential you wait a while or you will end up peeling off the nail polish in parts which is not a good look. Then just go over the entire nail with either a clear topcoat or a pale pink colour and then the topcoat. And walah!

This is a really classic nail look and perfect for work (which this was for at the time), going out or even day-to-day. I also like to add a bit of glitter or a floral design to my ring fingers too just to make it a little less plain.

Do you like french manicures or do you prefer a solid colour?

DIY: STUDDED DENIM SHIRT

Tadahhhhhh! I'm on a roll with this whole DIY thing, first shorts and now a shirt; soon I'll be an expert DIYer (unlikely). Anyway, I got this denim shirt last year from New Look and in all honesty, it was not a nice shirt. I liked it when I bought it but then realised it was pretty darn boring and so it lived at the back of my wardrobe until a week ago when I rediscovered it. Much to no ones surprise it still looked just as boring as it did a year ago so I decided I needed to do a bit of DIY!

I went with studs because at the moment they seem to be really on trend but I didn't like the idea of buying a studded piece knowing that everyone would have it so I decided to do now own. I bought a pack of 100 studs this ebay seller for around £5 which is more on the expensive side simply because, I chose a UK seller. Once I had the studs I just kind of went with the 'flow' of the shirt and hoped for the best. I had no real pattern in mind, I just ended up with this which I love! I first did the collar but thought it still needed something else so I decided to line the pocket flap which I really think looks great and stands out more than if I'd left it with just the collars studded.

This was super easy to do, you simply place the stud where you want it, push it into the material (I found doing this on a carpet makes it easier), and then use a metal rounded object like a letter opener end or a butter knife to close the spikes on the back. Easy!

What do you think of the stud trend? Will you be trying a similar DIY to this?

DIY: AMERICAN FLAG SHORTS

At the start of the week I embarked on my first ever DIY mission; American Flag shorts. I've been seeing more and more pairs of flagged shorts each time I venture into a store and every time I steer away from them for various 'too short', 'too expensive' and 'bad fitting' reasons. One pair in particular that many of you have probably seen are these from Topshop which are priced at £34 which I begrudge paying for a pair of shorts no matter how good they are!
So, what did I do you ask? Well I decided to grab a pair of boring jewelled shorts from my wardrobe and flag-dazzle them (see what I did there haha) and here is what I needed up with...

Taadaaaaaa! I'm so happy with how these turned out and they were so so easy to do aswel! All you need to do this DIY is:

- A pair of shorts
- A flag (or something large with a flag print on it)
- Scissors
- Fabric glue or sewing materials if you have the patience
- A couple of sheets of paper
- A marker pen/felt tip/pencil etc

All you do is make a stencil with the sheets of paper of the area of the shorts you want to cover. Then draw round this stencil onto the flag (or you can guess like I did). Cut out the flag preferably bigger than the stencil so you have room to work with. Fold over and glue/sew the edges of the flag and then leave that to dry (important!).

Once the edges are dry, apply glue to the edges of the shape and then begin to stick it to the shorts. Do both sides and any others flagged areas you wish and then let the glue dry over night. As a final thing, I decided to turn up the bottom of my shorts as I felt it looked better, so if you want to do this you simply turn up the material to your desired length and then either glue or sew it in place. That's it, DIY American Flag shorts in only a few hours.

Tip: If you want your shorts to look a little more distressed afterwards, take a piece of sand paper, wrap it around a wooden block or something of similar shape and then rub it on the areas of your shorts you ant distressed, ripped, worn etc. Do be aware, the sandpaper will create holes very quickly so if this isn't the look you want, only rub lightly.
