GOLDEN GLOBE AWARDS | BEST DRESSED

Taylor Swift in Donna Karen
Taylor Swift wore a satin, burgundy Donna Karen Atelier gown with sheer side panels and low open back. This is very different to her usual embellished, sequinned gowns and is much more of a chic look with a mermaid style cut giving the perfect silhouette. Taylor kept her hair simple with a side twist bun and wore matching coloured drop earrings.

Emily Blunt in Michael Kors
Emiy Blunt wears a very fitting, golden embellished Michael Kors gown with side cut outs and a slight mermaid style. She wore her hair in a high bun and paired the whole look with berry coloured jewels  and a gold jewelled clutch.

Nicole Kidman in Alexander McQueen
Nicole Kidman wore a black, fitted Alexander McQueen dress with mesh detailing at the waist and contrasting gold studs around the neck. Her jewellery was slightly mismatched with various coloured bracelets but this is overlooked by the dress giving a very simple silhouette.

Lucy Liu in Carolina Herrera
Lucy Liu wowed in a duck egg, strapless dress with an oversized skirt and an unusual floral print. Worn with a side plait in the hair and minimal jewellery, the dramatic shape of the dress and unexpected nature works perfectly together this time.

KYLIE MINOGUE COVERS ELLE UK | JANUARY 2013

The January 2013 coves are going to start coming through thick and fast in the next few days I'd imagine and one of the first to be released is Elle UK with their cover star Kylie Minogue.

Kylie wears a Christopher Kane dress and Jil Sander heels which I really like, especially the really muted colours used. My only issues with this cover are the pose (take a tip from ANTM and model head to toe!) and the hair. I don't like that you can't see her other foot, its really awkward to look at and the bleach blonde hair just isn't working, its not very 'Kylie' in my eyes. I am however, excited to see the accompanying editorial and the subscribers cover.

What do you think of the January 2013 cover of Elle UK? Are you a fan of Kylie's bleach blonde hair?

BEST DRESS | UNICEF SNOWFLAKE BALL

Two posts in one day, I'm on a roll!

I just love it when the Snowflake Ball comes around each year, everyone looks so elegant and very reminiscent of an ice, metallic scene (that makes sense in my head)! This year left me somewhat disappointed though and I found myself only able to choose three looks that stood out to me in a way I felt I could write a best dressed post and here they are...

Allison Williams
Girls star Allison Williams wore probably my favourite look of the night, keeping it very elegant with a muted duck-egg Naeem Khan gown and very minimal jewellery. The lace overlay and the metallic embellishments really give off a mermaid vibe, continued through the fit and slight tail. I like how Allison styled this look and for me, this dress on its own is a real stand-out.

Selena Gomez
Selena Gomez wore a black Dolce & Gabbana halter-necked gown with bronzed gold embellished detailing around the neck and body. The panel effect on this dress really flatters Selena's figure and creates a slight fish tail that just adds to the otherwise figure-hugging dress. Selena completed her look with a black clutch, a simple nude lip and contrast red nails and earrings. This look isn't the best I've ever seen, but it really suits the occasion and I like the detailing a lot.

Katy Perry
We all must remember the showstopping caped looks donned by Gwyneth Paltrow and Lana Del Rey earlier this year, but now Katy Perry has taken on that trend with a navy blue Naeem Khan cut-out gown and matching cape. The dress itself is very flattering on Katy and the floral cutout detailing down the front really is a nice touch. The cape however just doesn't do it for me; I like other variations of capes that I've seen in the past, but the sheer material and loose cut of this one really don't do the dress itself any justice. This look still deserves some recognition though as the styling and overall look work perfectly.

CHERYL COLE COVERS GLAMOUR UK DECEMBER 2012

Gosh it seems like I event done a cover post in absolutely ages! The first of the December covers is that of Cheryl Cole who covers Glamour UK. I'm not the biggest fan of Cheryl and usually don't love her cover shoots but I have to admit sadly, that this one I like; I think the team over at Glamour have done a great job with this one.

Cheryl looks great wearing a floral pink, feathered Chanel dress and an ultra-messy top knot. This cover is very fun and festive - the gold camera - and suits the magazine so well. This issue hits newsstand on November 1st but before that you can watch her behind-the-scenes video here which features some beautiful pastel coloured dresses!

Are you a fan of Cheryl Cole's December cover of Glamour? Will you be buying this issue?

ELLE'S 'WOMEN IN HOLLYWOOD' | BEST DRESSED

Last night saw the the women of Hollywood out in force for Elle's annual celebration and the stars certainly pulled out all the stopped in my opinion to stand out from the rest. I've chosen my four best dressed celebrities of the night and here they are (in order)...

Emma Stone
Emma attended the celebration wearing a very fun, almost neon Valentino dress with sheer sleeves and a peterpan collar. She paired it with a black clutch and a rather odd pair of dogtooth check shoes - not entirely sold on her shoe choice but I do love the dress; very age appropriate and with her blonde hair, it really makes the colour pop.

Lea Michele
Lea wore probably one of the most unusual and daring dresses of the evening, donning a black sheer Zimmerman piece with a floral bodice underneath. I like that she chose something a bit different and although I do wish the dress was sleeveless, I still think she deserves a best dressed place because she was daring enough to stand out, I mean everyone will be talking about this dress, bad or good, and I love her ombre hair too!

Nina Dobrev
Nina didn't fail to impress yet again wearing a striking blue and lace Vera Wang dress with Jimmy Choo shoes. I always love Nina's looks, and this one is no exception, the high neck and the hem of the dress work perfectly together and her simple accessories don't distract from the lace detailing. The only thing I would say is I wish she had worn her hair up instead, it's a bit distracting and is far too flat for my liking.

Julianne Hough
Julianne's look, as with Lea's, leans to the unusual side wearing a Calvin Klein dress and like shoes. Now although the dress could use a little reworking (namely the top), I do love her look overall and her hair and make-up combination is very on trend with the dark lip and plait. I can tell this will be a love it or hate it look but I am positively on the love it side; it's different and the colour is lovely.

So that's it, there were a few other looks I really liked but these are definitely my top four. Do you agree with my choices and who was your best dressed of the night?

JESSIE J COVERS ELLE UK

It seems odd saying it, but magazine are already starting to release their November issues and the first of those is Elle UK with Jessie J gracing the cover. The singer was photographed by Rankin for her debut Elle cover wearing a Dolce & Gabbana sleeved bodysuit. The accompanying editorial sure does promise great things, I'm just not completely sold on the cover image yet, Jessie's face looks awfully stiff; hopefully the shoot inside will be better. AND, a limited edition collectors issue is on its way to all subscribers - yay!

Do you like Jessie J's cover of Elle UK? Will you be buying this issue, or, are you a subscriber like myself?

BEST AND WORST DRESSED: EMMYS 2012

So, last night brought us the Primetime Emmy Awards and I have to say, although there were some beautiful dresses donning the red carpet, there were also quite a few awful ones. Here my thoughts on the best and worst dress celebrities of the night...

BEST

Julianne Hough
Julianne Hough wore a sea foam blue Georges Hobieka couture gown which really does bare the resemblance to a mermaid with the heavily embellished trail. This dress is just stunning and paired with the simple clutch and up-do, Julianne was by far my best dress of the night.

Ginnifer Goodwin
Ginnifer Goodwin opted for a nude Monique Lhullier gown with beautiful burnt orange floral detailing. This dress along with her red Christian Louboutin  heels suited her perfectly and this is certainly one of my favourite of Ginnifer's red carpet looks.

Sofia Vergara
If you have read any of my other 'best dressed' posts you will probably have gathered that in my eyes, Sofia Vergara can do no wrong when it comes to her choice of what to wear on the red carpet. The Emmys were no exception to this where Sofia chose an extremely glitzy (I hate that word but it describes this dress perfectly!) Zuhair Murad piece with her usual fish tail finish. She was easily the most glamorous celebrity of the night!

Nicole Kidman
Nicole Kidman for me really is a hit or miss when it comes to her red carpets looks. At last nights Emmys though, she really did wow in a white Antonio Berardi dress, heavily embellished with a sequin design on the front. This is one of Nicole's best looks in a while and I think by pairing this with minimal jewellery and matching heels, she definitely is a best dressed for me.

WORST (in no particular order)

Christina Hendricks
Eeeek! I say in no particular order but Christina Hendricks look really does come close to being the worst! She wore a nude grey custom Siriano dress that although a flattering shape for her, the colour did her absolutely no favours and if anything, it left her looking rather washed out against her pale skin and red hair. On the plus side, she kept her make-up and accessories to a minimum with a statement red lip and diamond jewellery.

Julianne Moore
You know someone deserves to make it onto your worst dress list if she honestly cannot put together a sentence to describe a look. What an earth was Julianne Moore thinking with this yellow Christian Dior  couture gown. The cut is all wrong for me, I think as a sleeveless piece this could have been slightly more flattering, or even some detailing or just something to take away from the yellow. This does nothing for her figure or her pale complexion.

Julianna Margulies
As much as I am a fan of Julianna Margulies, I'm not very often a fan of her choice of red carpet looks with this being no exception. She wore a floral Giambattista Valli dress which has it's good points - I love the idea of having pockets - and the print isn't all that bad. It also has its really bad points like the overall shape of the dress which is very 'sack-like' and I understand her keeping everything else simple but I just think she went a little too simple with the pulled back hair and next to no jewellery.

Lucy Liu
Lucy Liu is definitely not someone I've ever mentioned before so it's a shame this time has to be because she is one of my worst dressed picks. Lucy wore a Versace dress made completely of metal (this makes me hate it even more) and I just don't understand what she was thinking when choosing this. This is by far one of the worst looks of the night for me, she looks like she belongs in a sci-fi movie!

UNSURE

Hayden Panettiere
This is my undecided pick from the night. Hayden Panettiere wore a metallic-look Marchesa gown with gold leaf detailing and a sheer blue overlay. Now from the back I adore this dress, it looks so beautiful, it fits her like a glove and the blue and gold combination really do work together so well. If I'd only seen the back of this dress she would be my favourite of the night but now onto the front...

....although I still love the blue and gold combination, the gold is less visible from the front so it honestly for me, just looks like she's wrapped herself up in a piece of blue material. The shape of the dress from the front doesn't really work for me either but I supposed this is still leaning more towards best dressed than worst. What are your thoughts on Hayden's look?

January Jones
January Jones wore a black Zac Posen dress structured into layers around the skirt. This dress definitely is not the worst of the evening by far, but for one, how an earth did she mange to sit down wearing it! Honestly though, back to the serious stuff, I'm just not a fan of all the structure this dress has, it just all looks too much; especially with the added all black accessories. Not the worst, not the best. I'm sure some will disagree. What are your thoughts?

Other notable celebrity looks last night came from Leslie Mann wearing Naeem Khan, Heidi Klum wearing Alexandre Vauthier, Giuliana Rancic wearing Romona Keveza, Julie Bowen wearing Monique Lhuillier and Zooey Deschanel wearing Reem Acra.

Did you watch the Emmys? Which are you best and worst dress celebrities of the night?

RACHEL WEISZ COVERS MARIE CLAIRE UK

Ahh it's that time again, Marie Claire UK are one of the first to release their September cover and this time we see Rachel Weisz featured. This cover comes as no surprise as Rachel is currently promoting her latest movie, The Bourne Legacy. The British actress is wearing a black and red embellished dress and a too beautiful LBD on the subscribers cover.

Rachel talks exclusively about her life in New York with husband Daniel Craig, her teenage rebellion and motherhood; "I mean, I love my son but it's not without conflict." Read her full interview on August 2nd in Marie Claire's September issue!

This is Rachel Weisz' second UK cover this year and honestly, I think she has blown her Vogue cover out of the water with this one and from what I can see, this months editorial is also set to be a great one!

Do you like Rachel's cover? Will you be buying this issue?

MARION COTILLARD COVERS VOGUE US

Following her August cover of Marie Claire UK, Marion Cotillard now covers the August issue of Vogue US wearing a royal blue velvet coat. This cover was shot by Peter Lindbergh and honestly, it doesn't really make me excited about the issue. She almost looks as though she is a member of the royal family posing for a portrait; it actually takes me back a few years to having your school photo taken - nothing really special about this cover at all. I will say though, the accompanying editorial is beautiful even if it is slight velvet overkill.

You can see Marion's full shoot here, but you'll have to wait until the issue hits newsstands on July 24th to read her interview...

What do you think of Marion Cotillard's August Vogue US cover? Will you be buying this issue?

MARION COTILLARD COVERS MARIE CLAIRE UK

Marion Cotillard is Marie Claire's August cover star and although I'm not her biggest fan - she really annoys me in movies - I do love this cover; I just wish they hadn't cut off the top of her head. I love the pale pink look she has on the cover and her inside editorial is just as great. Surprisingly I'm a fan! This has to be one of my favourite Marie Claire covers of the year.

Exciting news; I just subscribed to Marie Claire and hopefully *fingers crossed* I will receive this August issue because the subscribers cover is even nicer in my opinion.
You can see Marion's full editorial and the alternative subscribers cover here

EMMA STONE COVERS BRITISH VOGUE

Emma Stone has once again landed a cover of a glossy, this time on British Vogue's August cover. I absolutely love this cover and this it's by far one of Vogue's strongest covers of the year, just brilliant! I also totally agree with the 'new Hollywood heroine' title she has been given, she's having an amazing run at the moment.

Emma models a MaxMara jumper and a chimney cap which is a completely different look for her but it suits her well don't you think? This cover is all honesty is not the most creative but I think that's what makes it so great, I love this cover and I'm really excited to see the accompanying editorial.

Are you a fan of Emma Stone's August cover of British Vogue? Do you prefer it more or less than her Vogue US cover?

EMMA STONE COVERS US VOGUE

For the July issue of US Vogue Emma Stone covers photographed by Mario Testino wearing a look from Nina Ricci's Autumn/Winter 2012 collection. As soon as  saw this cover I knew I didn't like it. I think it's a combination of Emma's blonde hair, odd styling (sorry Nina Ricci!) and boring pose that just really doesn't make me want to buy this cover.

Emma has returned to her blonde hair for her latest movie, The Amazing Spider-Man, but I just think her red hair would have made this cover a little more exciting. Maybe that's just me?

What do you think of Emma Stone's July cover of US Vogue? Do you like her look?

SELENA GOMEZ COVERS ELLE US

Selena Gomez covers the July 2012 issue of Elle US wearing a strapless corset dress by Dolce & Gabbana and a flash of bright red lipstick making her appear somewhat older than her true age of 19. I do however love the dress alone, it's absolutely stunning.

This cover as a whole really is great, I do like the styling, the shot, the background, everything; but Selena's facial expression...I don't really understand what she was going for. I also don't understand why Elle chose Selena; she isn't who I'd normally think Elle's target audience would want to read about...maybe I'm wrong, maybe they are changing their target? Either way, I'll still be picking up a copy of this issue I think.

You can see parts of Selena's interview and accompanying editorial here. Are you a fan of Selena Gomez's Elle US cover? Will you be buying this issue?

FLORENCE WELCH COVERS HARPER'S BAZAAR UK

For the July issue of Harper's Bazaar UK we see British singer Florence Welch as the cover star, seemingly perfect to represent the summer months and festivals approaching. Florence is photographed on both  the newsstand and subscribers issue wearing a sheer, floral-print dress from the Valentino Haute Couture Spring 2012 collection.

I have to say, although I'm not a fan of Florence or her other covers in the past - I'm looking at you Vogue - I do really like these two covers; more so the subscribers issue (typical) but the newsstand is also good. I predict from watching the behind-the-scenes video that the accompanying editorial is also going to be great with a rather soft and romantic feel to it.

What do you think of Florence Welch's July cover of Harper's Bazaar UK? Will you be buying this issue?

CHARLIZE THERON AND KRISTEN STEWART COVER INTERVIEW

Although I am not Kristen Stewarts biggest fan (understatement!), I was thrilled when I saw that Interview Magazine shot her and Charlize Theron for its June\July issue. There's no denying that this shoot is quite amazing and in perfect time for the release of Snow White and the Huntsman.

Shot by Mikael Jansson and styled by Karl Templer, this whole shoot has a real dark and vampire-esque feel to it which both Charlize and Kristen seem to take on well (Kristen has had practice though *cough* Breaking Dawn *cough*). You can see the editorial and both Charlize and Kristen's interviews here.

What are your thoughts on Interview's June/July cover? Will you be buying this issue?

THE 2012 MET GALA: BEST AND WORST

The Met Gala was definitely a night of spectacular fashion, spectacular people and spectacular atmosphere. Every one in attendance had clearly made their best effort to look good and in some it really did pay off *cough* Sofia Vergara and Nina Dobrev *cough*, but for some, their looks just weren't working...what ever angle you looked from! So here's a look at my best and worst dressed stars of the night...

Best

Sofia Vergara
Sofia never disappoints me with her choice of dresses. Wearing an ivory embroidered Marchesa gown with exaggerated peplum detail and fitted almost fishtail skirt, this dress is simply beautiful. Paired with the Harry Winston jewels it’s a very understated look, different from her usual bold colour choices. Definitely one of my best dressed of the night.

Nina Dobrev
Nina looked stunning wearing a black and gold silk Donna Karan Atelier gown that had quite an extreme train to it. She went simple with an up-do and H. Stern earrings that just finished off the whole look. This look was not a surprise to me at all, Nina always chooses the perfect dress and for her first ever Met Gala appearance she really did great.

Brooklyn Decker
I adore this dress. Brooklyn went for a periwinkle blue silk Tory Burch gown with embroidered floral print and tulle detailing. She went with a simple up-do and understated earrings that complimented the dress well. I don’t know what it is but her whole look for me is one of the best of the night.

Beyonce Knowles
I can tell Beyoncé’s Givenchy Haute Couture gown is going to be a real love/hate for people. I happen to think this dress is beautiful; the sheer black embroidered body really do compliment the purple feathered train well. Beyoncé went with a simple pulled back up that didn’t add to the already busy dress.

Ashley Greene
Ashley wore a custom Donna Karan gown in a beautiful off-white shade. The dress was jewel-encrusted and heavily embellished around the top which followed into the chiffon skirt nicely. She paired the dress with a simple clutch, drop earrings and natural waved hair. She got it so right with this look!

(Other looks I liked included; Jessica Alba, Camille Belle and Amy Adams)

Worst

Kristen Stewart
Kristen went from being crowned Glamour’s best dress woman to wearing this last night. She chose a Balenciaga by Nicolas Ghesquiere dress which looks completely mismatched what with the printed Tetris-like top and the colour-block skirt then paired with the un-matching white heels, what was going through her head when this look was put together? Worst dressed of the night for me.

Mary-Kate Olsen
This one sort of explains itself. What an earth was Mary-Kate thinking with this black, long sleeved cover-up dress by her own label, The Row. It drowns her tiny frame and washes her out completely and then the hair; was she going for a period gothic look?

Leighton Meester
Leighton wore a gold embroidered Marchesa gown with a fully-fledged tulle shirt. Now is it just me or is her skin almost the exact same colour as the dress…and not in a good way! She looks very golden bronzed and that paired with the complete gold dress really is qhite over powering and it completely washes her out. In a different colour this dress could have looked great.

Sarah Jessica Parker
Sarah Jessica Parker usually gets it so right but I can’t help but be confused by her choice of dress last night. She chose to cover up in a floral print Valentino gown that boded a full length skirt and sleeves. This dress almost buries her; I wish she’d gone for something shorter or at least more flattering.

Christina Ricci
Christina wore a black and crème strapless Thakoon dress which housed a pretty impressively large bow at the back. She looks like a badly wrapped gift; what with the messy slanted bow and the trail of ribbon behind, it’s just horrible. At least she kept her hair and make-up simple!

Gwyneth Paltrow
Gwyneth chose to wear a pale blue Prada dress with a halter neck and a drop-hem back. From what I've read, most people seem to love this dress but to me it looks more like something you’d wear to go to bed and not the Met Gala, but I suppose pyjamas are on trend so why not this? I was so looking forward to seeing what Gwyenth would wear after her Oscar’s look. Disappointment!

Undecided

Lana Del Rey
I’m torn with this look. Lana wore a custom silver sequinned Joseph Altuzarra gown with a sheer black cape. I can’t help but think of Gwyneth Paltrow’s caped Tom Ford gown when I see this; Lana opted for a darker, more ‘sinister’ looking version though with the blacks and dark vampire make-up which is swaying me to liking it. I want your opinions on this one…Are you a fan?

Emma Stone
Does pixie spring to anyone else's mind when you look at this? She looks too 'cutesy' and less sophisticated like she normally does. Emma is wearing a red structured, puffed Lanvin dress that is heavily embellished. This plus the messy up do and ballerina pose all make me immediately think of either a pixie or one of those ballerinas that spin round and round in music boxes. However, a part of me does like parts of this look....

So, those are my best and worst dressed of the evening. Who wore your favourite look and who didn't quite tickle your fancy?

5.03.2012

KATE MOSS COVERS VOGUE UK

Kate Moss' June Cover of British Vogue is pretty incredible if you ask me. Kate is photographed by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggot wearing a gold studded Versace dress following the gold theme through the cover. Everything about this cover is just stunning, from the shot itself, to the pose, to the dress, to the hair\make-up, Vogue has definitely got it right this time.

This is one of those covers that when I heard about it I wasn't all that interested, when I saw it however, I became excited! This cover is definitely inspired by the upcoming Diamond Jubilee and the London Olympics and I'm certain this issue will be a favourite among most Vogue readers.

Are you a fan of Kate Moss' June cover? Will you be buying this issue?

KRISTEN STEWART COVERS ELLE UK

(Source: elleuk.com)
Kristen Stewart has landed the June cover of Elle UK with a surprisingly good cover shot in my opinion. I'm not mad on the pose, her arm by her head looks slightly awkward, almost like she's weight lifting, but I do love her styling and the setting is so bright and very spring/summer inspired.

I'll be the first to admit that I'm not a fan of Kristen usually with her blank expression and 'urgh' personality but this cover really is great and her facial expression really is engaging. I'm a fan of this cover and will definitely be picking up a copy.

Are you a fan of Kristen Stewart's Elle UK June cover? Will you be buying this issue?

BELLA HEATHCOTE, ZOE KRAVITZ & JUNO TEMPLE COVER NYLON

(source: Nylonmag.com)
Umm...is it bad that I don't recognise either of these three 'Young Hollywood' actresses? Well, after searching them on Google (because I'm cool like that) I discovered that I do in fact recognise Juno Temple from her role in Wild Child (her cover shot looks nothing like her!) but other than that I am completely clueless...so this is today's Young Hollywood eh?

The actresses are wearing a mix of H&M, Bogetta Veneta and Calvin Klein for this rainbow coloured shoot, shot by Marvin Scott Jarrett. For me this cover is mediocre; nothing really stands out and makes me want to buy it...One thing I must say though is that I love the inside shoot, the styling is just fantastic! This however is not a swaying point for me and I don't thin this issue will be coming home with me this month.

Are you a fan of Nylon's May cover? Do you recognise the Young Hollywood actresses of today?
