RILAKKUMA BEAR

Is this not the cutest thing you have ever seen? My new phone case arrived this morning and I'm so happy with it! I'm definitely one of those people who gets bored so easily by things, especially phone cases, but this one I can see me loving for a long time. Well, this was just a quick and random post but I wanted to share with you haha...

I bought this case from Amazon for £5.49 from this seller.

SCANDALOUS!

Why have I only just discovered this shampoo/conditioner combination?! I was in Savers of all places last week and came across these two for £1 each and honestly, one of the main things that attracted me to them was packaging which is very rock 'n' roll esque and vibrant. That aside, I also quite liked the idea of the colour-care claims because in case you didn't already know, I have my hair highlighted (very highlighted!) from a darkish brown to blonde and I just thought colour-care shampoo would be better - I don't actually know if it's made a difference to my colour haha.

Well what can I say about these; they are absolutely amazing! The first time I used this combination I was actually in shock of how soft, straight and healthy my hair looked from just using a £1 product (I have since discovered they are actually £3.49 in Superdrug...think I'll stick to Savers!) over my usual £4+ Aussie brands. After using this shampoo and conditioner for a week now I really don't think I will be going back to Aussie anytime soon unless this brand suddenly disappears which is doubtful.

One thing which is really annoying however is the smell, in particular the smell of the shampoo. It smells like disinfectant almost, or at least something that isn't what I expected at all. Looking at the packaging you'd think it would smell like bubblegum or at least something sweet smelling like that but no, instead it smells awful and like a cleaning product. This aside, I do love this shampoo and conditioner and I think I might just go and buy a few more bottles just in case Savers ever runs out and I have to pay the £3.49 Superdrug are charging.

I believe this range only contains the ranges 'colour-care' and 'volumizing' but I may be wrong; let me know if there are any others. Have you tried any these or any other products by this brand?

ALL THOSE PRETTY THINGS...

H&M - £14

New Look Postcard Print - £24.99 £10

Miss Selfridge - Pyramid Ring & Eye Wing Ring (both £1 in sale)

I really strayed away from my usually clothing and jewellery items whilst shopping yesterday and decided to pick up two print dresses - one even with a cut out back, that's daring for me - from New Look, both in the sale and both so pretty, I'm going to try and become more of a dress person. I also got a floral collar detail pastel blue shirt from H&M and two rings from Miss Selfridge which were reduced to £1 each which was a bargain! Successful shopping day I thought.

I'd suggest if you like dresses or are looking for a new dress then you go and check out New Look's sale because they have so many both in store and online at considerable discounts. Also pretty much every sale item of Miss Selfridge jewellery was £1 so you can pick up some really great pieces for a fraction of what they should be.

I feel like what I bought will be great for spring/summer - if we ever get a summer here in the UK! What are you best clothing buys for the Spring/Summer?

SALMON FISHING IN THE YEMEN

I feel like I sort of asked for this to be a terrible movie with a name like 'Salmon Fishing in the Yemen'. I want to first start by saying, never watch a movie with 'salmon' in the name if you have no interest in fish, or at least that's what I think!  I went into this movie with the expectations that it would be a very predictable, romantic comedy with very little to do with fish and fishing; oh how I was wrong! From the moment I realised it was a BBC-made British comedy, I knew it would not be my cup of tea.

There were aspects of a romantic comedy with the predictable ending and the jokes throughout but the main theme of the entire thing was very different. The story is about a fisheries expert, Dr Alfred Jones (Ewan McGregor), who is approached by a consultant, Harriet Chetwode-Talbot (Emily Blunt), on behalf of a Sheik Muhammad (Amr Waked) to realise a dream of bringing Salmon fly-fishing to the desert of Yemen at whatever cost. To start with, Dr Jones believes the task to be impossible but after the Prime Minister comes on board he is forced to make it a reality with the help of the press secretary (Kristin Scott Thomas) who provides most of the comedy throughout with her persistent manner and internet chats to the Prime Minister about matter of if he can fish or not.

Throughout the journey to making this a reality, there is a sub-story between Harriet and her 3-week boyfriend  Robert, who is sent to Afghanistan by the British Army and then becomes 'missing in action'. This is over-turned by the romance blossoming between Harriet and Dr Jones, however, this romance never really goes anywhere as the movie seems to really have it's main focus sturdily on the fish. Although the main story is that of getting salmon to the Yemen, there are a few sub-stories which almost make an attempt to turn this slow-paced, British comedy into an war action including an attempted assassination on the Sheik and a near-sabotage to the project by extremists of the country who don't believe this is the right way to be spending the countries money.

These 'action' scenes, though seemingly out of place, really did provide the only form of entertainment for me throughout the entire movie. That is, aside with Ewan McGregor's character who was a very well-spoken Scottish man, passionate about all things fishing and very involved with the entire thing. After initially having no idea who is was (I'm sorry!) I found myself to really enjoying watching him and his character develop, even with the limited storyline to work with. I just wish his and Emily Blunt's character had more on-screen chemistry because I found it difficult to really believe their shared 'romance' among the other romances they shared in their current relationships.

This is definitely an easy watch, typical British movie that based it's self on the faith of the characters. The main plot was given extra padding by the sub-stories which without would have been little more than a fishing trip to the Yemen. I can honestly say now that that was two hours of my life I will never get back, and without the comedy and action parts I don't think I could have got through it. This is definitely much like fishing, you are either going to find it thrilling and entertaining or utterly dull. I was the latter I'm afraid.

METROMORPHOSIS

** Picture heavy! **

****

Today I went to the Metrocentre to do a bit of shopping and also to watch the fashion live event, 'Metromorphosis', which basically showcased a select few stores and the newest ranges available. Some of the highlight shows for me were that of Miss Selfridge, G-Star Raw and Doc Black because the pieces just really stood out, especially Doc Black with it's graphic mens tees and printed dresses.

This was the first time I've seen a live 'fashion show' (I know it isn't London Fashion Week or anything but hey it's a start), I just got so into the show and really got a sense what catwalks are about. The whole show had a really great vibe to it, the models were very responsive to the audience and speaking of the audience, wow there were masses of people everywhere surrounding the catwalk! Lucky for me on both of the two shows I saw I got good seats, front row on the second show :). There was also a dance group and a vocal group to entertain between the shows.

Other stores showcasing their ranges were Walis, Warehouse, Van Mildert, Paris, Burton, Demure Leather, Coast and Blue Inc, Evans, Rebel Rebel and 7 Camicie.

If you live anywhere near the metro centre I'd totally recommend you go and check out the last day tomorrow (Sunday) because it really is a great show and they are offering discounts on the clothing items featured which is a bonus!

BARRY M BLUE MOON & STRAWBERRY

Barry M Blue Moon & Strawberry I/C (ice cream?) - £2.99 each
Today I opted for a pastel themed nail look which originally was intended to be just Strawberry I/C on every nail but somehow ended with Blue Moon on my ring fingers! I just love both of these polishes as they apply really well - two coats gives a perfect opaque outcome - and Blue Moon in some lights can be mistaken as a white shade so went perfect with the soft pink.

As with most of Barry M polishes, the finish is rather glossy and a top coat isn't always needed; though I usually do as I like my nails to be extra shiny. A quick thing I found was that if you paint all your nails with the main colour and then paint the ring fingers over that, it turns out a much more vibrant and complimenting shade (or at least it does with these two colours). I suppose it's basically like painting your nails with a white base coat just with a colour instead?

Anyway, I really love both of these nail polishes and I forever stick by the fact that Barry M is amazing! If you've tried Barry M, which is your favourite nail polish? Do you like the different coloured ring fingers 'look'?

KRISTEN STEWART COVERS ELLE UK

(Source: elleuk.com)
Kristen Stewart has landed the June cover of Elle UK with a surprisingly good cover shot in my opinion. I'm not mad on the pose, her arm by her head looks slightly awkward, almost like she's weight lifting, but I do love her styling and the setting is so bright and very spring/summer inspired.

I'll be the first to admit that I'm not a fan of Kristen usually with her blank expression and 'urgh' personality but this cover really is great and her facial expression really is engaging. I'm a fan of this cover and will definitely be picking up a copy.

Are you a fan of Kristen Stewart's Elle UK June cover? Will you be buying this issue?

CATCHING FIRE - SUZANNE COLLINS

I finished the first Hunger Games book a while ago - read review here, then watched the movie (which was awesome by the way) and then thought it was about time I read the second book in the trilogy, Catching Fire. I thoroughly enjoyed the first book and had real high expectations for the second after hearing so many positive things about it; I was actually rather disappointed though.

The first book was basically about Katniss Everdeen's journey volunteering and surviving The Hunger Games at the Capitol. It also followed her romance with Peeta, from District 12 like Katniss. After I finished this book I don't really know what I expected Catching Fire to be about but I just expected it to be as gripping as the first when in reality it fell short in that department and left me having to push myself to continue reading in parts. It started off as a very uninteresting read and only thoroughly engaged me towards the end during the Games themselves. From the beginning where I was reading one chapter at a time, to the final part where I couldn't put it down, it's definitely a mixed read for me.

One thing about the book I did like was the introduction of the previous victors and how we actually got to know some of them on a far more personal level than we did with the tributes in the first book. I particularly liked Finnick as he was a very witty and likeable character throughout the latter half of the book, I found myself being more involved with reading about him than some of the more prominent characters.

Overal I did enjoy this book, and on reflection, I think I enjoyed the Games portion more than  I did in the first book. It was a lot less dragged out (mainly because it started late into the story), and it left me on the edge of my seat at the turn of every page. I just wish the rest of the book had been as gripping. I would recommend The Hunger Games series so far and I am truly looking forward to reading the final book of the trilogy after being left at such a cliff-hanger at the end of Catching Fire.

**I have since discovered that I have left the final book, Mockingjay, at home so I won't be reading that for a while :( **

BELLA HEATHCOTE, ZOE KRAVITZ & JUNO TEMPLE COVER NYLON

(source: Nylonmag.com)
Umm...is it bad that I don't recognise either of these three 'Young Hollywood' actresses? Well, after searching them on Google (because I'm cool like that) I discovered that I do in fact recognise Juno Temple from her role in Wild Child (her cover shot looks nothing like her!) but other than that I am completely clueless...so this is today's Young Hollywood eh?

The actresses are wearing a mix of H&M, Bogetta Veneta and Calvin Klein for this rainbow coloured shoot, shot by Marvin Scott Jarrett. For me this cover is mediocre; nothing really stands out and makes me want to buy it...One thing I must say though is that I love the inside shoot, the styling is just fantastic! This however is not a swaying point for me and I don't thin this issue will be coming home with me this month.

Are you a fan of Nylon's May cover? Do you recognise the Young Hollywood actresses of today?

OOMPH!!

I was trawling through my posts and honestly could not believe I hadn't mentioned VO5's Oomph Powder before, after owning it for a good few months now. This little 7g bottle of magic is used to add that little bit extra oomph to your hair with a sprinkling of it's white powder. This powder is amazing, for starters, when you buy this it looks like it's not completely full but in actual fact that is because the idea is to shake it before you use it which makes the powder expand (I have no clue how!) and thus giving it it's hair 'oomph-ing' powers. After shaking the bottle it is honestly the most fascinating thing ever watching it go down in the bottle back to it's original size...maybe that's just me?

Now 7g may not seem like a lot but seriously, a little goes a long way with this product. You put a sprinkling either in your hand as above, or straight onto your roots, give it a rub and walah, volumized hair in a second and with the tiny pin-sized hole, this process is made so much easier. If you rub the powder between your fingers you can feel that it is slightly sticky, but this doesn't come across when on your hair, and also, don't be afraid by the dandruff-like appearance, the white will disappear after you've rubbed it in!

I would completely recommend this product to anyone who wants to give their flat hair a lift. It's well worth the £4.00 you pay in my opinion and I can see this being a long time favourite of mine. I hope to try out some more VO5 products in the future. Any suggestions?

CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER

Okay so before anyone says anything, I get that I'm a bit late with this one (a lot late), but I only today got around to watching Captain America: The First Avenger and it was so so good!

The story is basically about a small and thin guy called Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) who repeatedly tries to sign up for the army to fight in the second world war, but each time gets turned away because of his size and his medical conditions. That is until Dr Abraham Erskine (Stanley Tucci) sees how determined he is and how willing he is to protect his country, and so gets him into an experimental program to which he will be injected with muscle generators and 'Vita Rays'.

Steve is then transformed into a large muscular figure who has strength and speed on his side (the opposite to his previous self). He is transformed into the 'Captain America' figure performing day after day to recruit and make people aware of the war but in doing so finds himself fighting to save his friend and the country.

I think this movie really does capture a sense of the war but should be taken with a pinch of salt in parts as it is very out of this world and sometimes impossible. I like how we get to see the transformation of Steve Rogers and also how he and the other characters interact is just genius. Tommy Lee Jones plays the army general and is a very outspoken and almost witty character coming out with some of the best lines in the entire movie - I found myself laughing frequently! Hayley Atwell's character seems none other than a role to fall at the feet of Captain America and act as his romantic interest which she does well but to some extent she does come access as rather needy. Stanley Tucci's role is far too short which is a shame, and Dominic Cooper's role is played out to be all important however, he doesn't really get all that much screen time with his bad American accent and terrible moustache. Hugo Weaving plays the Red Skull well and of course his part is somewhat of a main role so it is to be expected.

Overall a great movie with a great and surprising cast. I found it easy to watch and didn't get confused (much!). I wasn't sure if it would be my type of thing but after watching I'm so glad I gave it a go because I really did thoroughly enjoy it. I'm excited to see The Avengers when that comes out!

Have you watched Captain America: The First Avenger? Are you a fan of Marvel movies?
