Hollywood Halloween

It seems the stars were out in force over the weekend at various hollywood halloween parties including those hosted by Kate Hudson, Snooki, Heidi Klum and Kate Walsh. Some of the more 'traditional' costumes were worn by celebrities such as;

Paris Hilton dressed as a gladiator (pretty predictable)

Alex McCord and Simon Van Kempen opted for the typical halloween
 Frankenstein and his bride costumes.

Gwen Stefani chose to dress as a heavily accessorised
version of Cinderella

Sara Ramirez went for a vampire nurse is the spirit
of the 'spooky' element of halloween

Bethenny Frankel simply went for Hello Kitty-esque

Those celebrities who really thought outside of the box with their costumes were;

Heidi Klum arrived on a surgical bed as a 'body'

Nicole Richie opted out of the typical costume and dressed as
Jennifer Lopez, the resemblance is uncanny - compliment to JLo or not?

Not so complimentary was Jennifer Love Hewitt's costume which was
supposed to be Angelina Jolie. Personally if I were Angelina I'd be quite
offended by this interpretation.

Kim Kardashian went for the villain, Poison Ivy which is probably
not what people were expecting!

Kate Walsh hosted her party dress as Morticia Adams. I for one
think she got this one absolutely right!
Some other celebrity costumes included;

My favourite celebrity halloween costume this year I'd say has to be either Nicole Richie as JLo or Kim Kardashian as Poison Ivy. Both very different from the 'norm' but equally as great!

Who's your favourite?

50 Questions That Will Free Your Mind...

It's day two of the challenege and her's today's mind freeing question:

Which is worse, failing or never trying?

As much as nobody likes failing, it is much worse to fail than to not have tried. With failure you can learn and build upon it but if you don't try in the first place then you will never learn. I personally hate failing, but I'll admit that I am a person who sometimes wont try things because of the 'fear' of failing...This fear lies within a lot of people but I have forever been told to try or you'll never know, so I'm trying to follow that rule (excuse the pun).

I think for most, the answer to this question will be that never trying is worse than failing and I agree with this. Do you?

50 Questions That Will Free Your Mind...

Quick post but, I was reading someone's bucket list and came across something called the '50 Questions That Will Free Your Mind' challenge. Basically it's 50 questions that have no right or wrong answer, but instead are there for your own interpretation. You have to answer one question a day for 50 days (obviously) and I've decided to take on the challenge! I will be answering my questions through daily blog posts and here goes with day one;

How old would you be if you didn't know how old you are?
Wow, starting off easy eh? I'm going to approach this one as my age being my 'mental age' because I suppose if you didn't know how old you were, this is what you'd assume your age was. I'd say in some ways my mental age is older than my actual age. I would consider myself to be mature and sensible so true for an 'older' person but then also my mental age is significantly reduced with some of the things I say. I don't always think before I open my mouth and then say some stupid things that maybe a 'younger' person would say. I do however feel eighteen.

Being eighteen means a lot of things. It means being able to legally do almost everything. It means being an 'adult' and it means you get treated completely different. I turned eighteen in June and since then I have quickly had to get accustomed to being an 'adult'. I've moved away to university where I pretty much have to do everything for myself. No more spoon feeding as they say.

So to answer the question of; 'How old would you be if you didn't know old old you are?', I would have to say if i didn't know my age, I would still probably be eighteen. Everything changes when you turn eighteen, especially if you decide to go to university which I did...

What's in my bag?

I personally love reading 'What's in my bag?' posts so I thought i'd do one of my own. The bag I'm currently using is a black 'bumpy' LYDC satchel which is perfect for me whilst at university!

I have wanted an LYDC satchel for ages and when my mum told me a few weeks ago that she'd bought me one I was ecstatic. I like that this isn't just a plain, boring satchel; it has zip detailing along the bottom and embossed bumps all over it.

Anyway, onto what's in my bag...

- Headphones
- River Island purse
- Soap & Glory hand food
- Spotty umbrella
- Glamour magazine (mini)
- Memory stick
- Carex hand sanitizer
- Cupcake notebook
- My iPhone 4
- Nail file
- Pen
- Extra chewing gum
- Vaseline pink tin
- Kate Moss lipstick
- Rimmel concealer
- Soap & Glory 'perfume'
- Empty camera case - which would have my camera in it normally

So, my bag isn't really that full to be honest but it has everything in it that I might need on a day-to-day basis.

Now for a closer look at some things...

I'm new to the Soap & Glory world but I can happily say I've soon become a fan! The 'Hand Food' was the only product I'd really ever heard of and since buying it, it has made my hands feel so soft and it smells soooo good which is a bonus! The 'Mist You Madly' perfume was part of a 2 for 1 offer and I did't fancy anything else so I chose that. It too smells really nice and it's easier to carry around in my bag than a full size perfume bottle would be.

I'm not really a lipstick wearer to be honest. In fact I don't really wear any make-up at all, but when I saw Kate Moss had teamed up with Rimmel to make a lipstick, I thought I'd make an exception! Well what can I say, I absolutely love this lipstick, it is subtle but still noticeable at the same time which is perfect for me. The shade is 03 'Rossetto/Rouge A Levres' and it is a very pale salmon colour.

My iPhone 4 is my one necessity. I seriously don't know what I'd would do without my phone, it has everything on it! I have the black one - although I'm longing for the white one. I like to keep a cover on my phone to protect it from scratches, but I get bored of them really really quickly and end up accumulating a tonne of cases! This case however has actually been on my phone for several months now as I love it!

This is the first ever issue of Glamour magazine I have ever bought. I was bored one day and decided to buy it because I could easily fit it in my bag when I needed to go to class. It's actually a really good magazine - this won't be news to many people.

That's it, nothing else in my bag really needs an explanation...WAIT! I've just realised that I forgot to include two things in my bag contents. I usually keep a larger notebook than the one pictured (for lecture notes) and my flat/car keys but I have been using both of these today so they weren't in my bag.........

This is actually it now. I hope you enjoyed seeing what I carry round with my daily. If you didn't then I'm sorry but I know lots of people do enjoy reading these :)

I love an artist who tells a story...

I'm the type of person who would rather watch a movie or a tv show than sit and listen to music. For some reason I just don't 'enjoy' listening to music when I could be doing something else. I don't keep up with the charts, I'm more into soundtracks like Mamma Mia! and Burlesque, which again goes back to me preferring movies haha, or older artists like Celine Dion and Bonnie Tyler. I do like songs from artists like Miley Cyrus, Nicole Scherzinger and Lady Gaga but I don't listen to them a lot. I have found over this past year however, as well as the oldies, I've enjoyed listening to country music a whole lot more with artists like; Sugarland, Carrie Underwood, Martina McBride and Eric Church.

My favourite artist at the moment though is Reba McEntire because I just love how each of her songs tell a story. For example 'Somebody' is about a waitress and a man who meet in a diner and begin talking. The man then goes abut his days, meeting other women but the only thing on his mind is the waitress and then the next time they meet he realises that she is who he has been looking for all along The song follows the message that; 'somewhere out there, is somebody...' and that any one of the people you encounter everyday could be the somebody for you.

Reba later recorded another song called 'Love Needs A Holiday' which shows the couple from 'Someday' six years on.  They now have a family and the song follows them on an evening together away from the house, the children and the dog. The message of the song is that 'it's hard to be lovers when life gets in the way' and that every couples needs a break from their children once in a while for a rest if anything else!

One song that I've only just recently heard of Reba's is 'Somebody's Chelsea' from her new album All The Woman I Am. This song is about a man who sits next to her on a plane and begins to tell her about his late wife of 60 years, Chelsea. The man loved his wife so much and the song is about how every woman wishes she was a Chelsea to someone, 'a part of a love story that never has an end'. This song has quickly become my favourite. I love the message of it and the whole story of how the man never stopped loving his wife even after she passed. Everyone wants that...

I could go on about so many other songs but these three stick in my mind. They are also my favourite haha.

Some of my other favourite songs by Reba McEntire are:
Consider Me Gone
Strange
Fancy
Because Of You (featuring Kelly Clarkson)
The Greatest Man I Never Knew

Welcome to the big wide world...

This is a bit of a sour blog but I wanted to write it anyway. Yesterday as I mentioned, a blog I wrote was posted on Kate Walsh's website about the TV couple Addisam. I thought as usual I would get the odd few comments which usually were always nice but this time some people felt the need to completely blow what I'd written out of proportion;

One girl thought she'd comment basically saying who was I to speak for all 'Walshies' and that my opinion is invalid. But thats the thing, it was my opinion and the opinion of the few people I asked. I was in no way trying to speak for everyone, nor did I try to insinuate that I was. After this one comment, more people then jumped in agreeing with her and giving me english lessons on my use of adjectives, verbs and nouns. Now as much as I'm flattered people were talking about me and my writing, I'd much rather they didn't do it behind my back on Twitter. My blog would not have been posted if Kate's team had thought it was any way biased or 'invalid'.

At first I was absolutely shocked that people objected so much to what I had written. I never meant it as a representation of every person because that would be almost impossible. I then spoke to my parents who told me that people can be mean. They said that if I want to go into the world of writing and journalism - which I do, then this is what I will have to deal with every time something of mine gets published. People won't always share the same views as I do, and people will continue to voice their opinions. I had just never experienced so much negativity towards my writing before that it was a big blow to me.

I've now moved past it and have decided to focus on the fact that my blog actually got posted on Kate's site. This in itself makes me so happy and I'm just going to have to learn to take peoples comments with a pinch of salt from no on!

I'd like to say thank you to everyone who tweeted me and commented saying they liked my blog, it means a lot...

Nicki Minaj Covers W

Nick Minaj covers the November 2011 issue of W in an 18th Century editorial for the 'arts edition'. I'll admit, I'm not a fan of Nicki's at all, but I have to admit that this concept is brilliant! She has been transformed into four different period women with the help of couture gowns and vintage jewellery and photographer Francesco Vezzoli.

I think this cover and spread is a new twist on couture fashion that Nicki has embodied brilliantly.

Do you think this cover is as fashion forward as I do?

Walshie blog!!!

Hey! So I sort of lost hope of my 'Addisam' blog ever being posted on Kate Walsh's site, but much to my surprise, she just tweeted that it's on! For all of you who don't know, Addisam is Addison and Sam from the TV show Private Practice. Since their relationship began there has been many many disputes about it among Walshies, so I thought i'd lay all of these on the table for everyone....

So, here is my blog, enjoy!

Let me know your thoughts on either here or under my post on Kate's site.

Jennifer Aniston Covers Elle US

Jennifer Anniston covers the November 2011 issue of Elle US looking fabulous as ever! Since finally getting round to watching Friends this year, and seeing her work in a few films I have grown to like Jennifer more and more. This cover is simple and understated and yet it pops!

Jennifer shows her naturally flawless self, wearing a Calvin Klein jersey dress and David Yurman jewellery. She was photographed by Alexei Hay.

I personally think this cover is simple yet fashion forward at the same time. What are your thoughts?

Johnny Depp Covers Vanity Fair

The talented Johnny Depp covers the November 2011 issue of Vanity Fair and I will definitly be buying myself a copy very soon! In my eyes this man can't go wrong when it comes to acting. Every role he plays is different, he takes on a new character in each and every movie he does which can't be said for a lot of actors.

Depp was photographed for the magazine by Terry Richardson and his usual 'unique' style is clearly present.

What are your thoughts on Johnny's Vanity Fair cover?

Vogue...

My interest in magazines, especially fashion magazines has grown increasingly this year, and I decided to 'collect' UK Vogue every month until. I find each issue to be totally fascinating and it never ceases to amaze me the people that they have on the covers!

When I heard that Rihanna would grace the cover of the November edition I was a little surprised but at the same time intrigued. I personally am not a big fan of hers. I like the occasional song she does but other than that I consider her as 'just another singer', so when I saw the cover I was utterly surprised that I actually liked it! For me it showed her in a completely different way without the attention grabbing red hair and the provocative clothing. The cover is soft and elegant and Rihanna did 'ROCK' the cover despite the negative opinions I've heard of it. So here's the cover, what are your thoughts on it?

November's Rihanna cover was my favourite of this year until I saw the upcoming December issue cover which quite frankly blew me away. Featuring Gisele, it makes such a bold statement and the bright colours are enough to make it pop from the newsstands. And here it is, the December cover;

What do you make of the December cover? And I ask, what is your all time favourite Vogue cover (any country!)...here are some of mine (there's a lot haha);

The iconic Vogue cover, recreated recently by Rankin and Heidi Klum

This has to be one of my ultimate favourites, I wish I could have gotten my hands on this one...

So now you've seen some of my favourites, remember, I'd like to hear about yours now!
